Breaking down barriers in sport and in beauty
Kelsey Serwa (affectionately known as K-ser) is an Olympic gold and silver medalist, three-time Olympian, World Champion, two-time National Champion and two-time X Games gold medalist with 20 incredible World Cup podium finishes. She is also a university student, founder of K-Ser Scholarship Fund and lover of good times.
It's no secret that Kelsey is a big fan of ski cross. She loves the clarity, fierceness and focus required in the start gate, the intensity, battling head-to-head four-wide down a track of jumps, rollers and banked turns. And, she says "I love flying through the air even when the jumps are just a little bigger than wanted."
As an elite athlete, Kelsey spends an extensive amount of time building her strength, power, agility, balance and endurance. She believes that in sport, feeling confident is essential to be able to perform on demand successfully. To get the most out of this work, Kelsey believes it is imperative to fuel her body with wholesome, nutrient-rich and 'good for the soul' foods. Over the past two years, she has adopted an increasingly plant-based diet. Though, a sucker for ice cream, Kelsey is also an advocate of treating yourself from time to time.
Just as she's self-aware of what she eats, Kelsey believes we should be equally conscientious of the ingredients we use on our bodies. "Mother Nature is incredible and has provided us with all the natural remedies necessary to keep us feeling and looking our best," Kelsey notes. "As a child, I remember enjoying reading the labels on my shampoo bottles, conditioners and creams. I realized that I was unable to pronounce nearly all the ingredients other than "fragrance." Now as an adult (well, sort of), I am pumped to choose products with ingredients derived from natural sources such as organic aloe, sunflower, jojoba and coconut oils, orange peels, lemongrass, and wild geranium just to name a few".
“Mother Nature is incredible and has provided us with all the natural remedies necessary to keep us feeling and looking our best.”
So how does skin care fit into this? Here's Kelsey's take.
"My mantra for nearly everything in life is to keep it simple, and my face care regime is no exception. I want to spend as much time as possible outside, which means I'm up and out of the house with as little fuss as possible. Using a face care product that keeps my skin looking fresh and clear means that all I need in the morning is a little Keep ‘Em Guessing lotion and I'm out the door.
Freezing temps, gusty winds, high-alpine sun, dirt, long plane rides and all the facial expressions that come with the excitement of my sport pay a toll on my face. I've struggled to find a product that would soothe, moisturize and balance its tone. Since using Vital Facecare, I've noticed a healthier glow and much less variation in my skin's condition. I feel it's important to have a face care regime to fight against these demands because it's given me confidence both on and off the slopes."
“To me, beauty means being confident in who you are, pursuing the things you are passionate about, fiercely standing up for what you believe in, supporting those around you and having fun.”
When asked "What does beauty means to you?" Kelsey shared this.
"To me, beauty means being confident in who you are, pursuing the things you are passionate about, fiercely standing up for what you believe in, supporting those around you and having fun.
I joke with my teammate Britt that if you look good, you'll feel good, then you'll be good. Whether there's truth to that or not, having clear and healthy facial skin definitely helps with the post-race interviews."
“My mantra for nearly everything in life is to keep it simple.”
If that is how Kelsey defines beauty, it's clear to us that she's a natural. Welcome to Team Vital.
