Kelsey Serwa

SKI CROSS

As soon as she learned to walk, Kelsey Serwa started skiing. Her grandfather Cliff Serwa co-founded Big White Ski Resort, so her affinity for the sport came as no surprise. Rising through the ranks in the alpine world starting at the age of 6, Kelsey was named to the Woman’s National Development Team for Canada in 2008.

The next year she made a transition that would make history. In 2009, alpine racer Kelsey Serwa moved to ski cross. She is now an Olympic gold and silver medalist, three-time Olympian, World Champion, three-time National Champion and two-time X Games gold medalist with 20 incredible World Cup podium finishes.

Kelsey is the only Triple Crown winner, encompassing victories at the Olympics, World Championships and X Games, and the only ski cross athlete in the World to win multiple Olympic medals. She is also a university student and founder of K-Ser Scholarship Fund.

Her mantra for nearly everything in life is to keep it simple, and Kelsey lives for spending time outside, free from crowds, technology and the chaos of everyday life.

Erin Rafuse

SAILING

Since she started playing sports as a child, Erin Rafuse dreamed of representing Canada. Her father Paul was heavily involved in sailing, and she began sailing lessons at age eleven. At twelve, she was a to join the Canadian Optimist Atlantic Sailing Team.  The rest, as they say, is history.

That dream came true in 2009, when she joined the national team, sailing in the Laser Radial. She competed at the world championships from 2009 to 2012. She then had the opportunity to skipper of 49er FX, teaming up Dannie Boyd as crew in preparation for this boat class’ Olympic debut at Rio 2016. Together, they won the national title in 2014, finished 27th at the ISAF World Championships the same year. They competed at the Pan Am games in Toronto in 2015, then finished 17th place in Buenos Aires, which qualified the boat for the Olympic Games in Rio. In addition to competing in these games, career highlights include being a 3X North American and National Champion, 5th at the Miami World Cup.

Now Erin has changed course and is training for other adventures, including triathlons and is coaching a new generation of sailors. She is still competing in sailing events and continues to spend time on the water. For Erin, there is no better feeling than being on the ocean.
